At 92, Movie Bootlegger Is Soldiers’ Hero - NYTimes.com

At 92, Movie Bootlegger Is Soldiers’ Hero - NYTimes.com

Movie piracy for a cause. This solitary 92 year old man has probably done more for troop morale than anyone else. I love this story.

If the studios were smart, they'd be doing this kind of thing themselves.

Little snake

Little snake, originally uploaded by txfiddlechick.

I think this little guy is either a Smooth or Rough Earth Snake, which Wikipedia tells me are found in the area and tend to max out at around 7" (about the size of this little guy). They feed primarily on earthworms and the like.

Found him lying in our driveway, curled up in this snake equivalent of the fetal position. One of our cats (probably Ruckus the Destroyer) clearly had chomped on it until it played dead. He was definitely punctured, but it looked like it might be something he might recover from.

I put him under a shrub in the garden. Checked back later, and he was gone.

Hawk Cam!

We've become addicted to this webcam, a red-tailed hawk nest on the ledge of a building on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison.

When we first came across it, it was just red-tailed hawk mom (or dad — they take turns) sitting on eggs — not a lot of action. Now that there are babies, we can't turn it off. Mom and dad fly in with a steady stream of unidentifiable dead critters to feed them. It's fascinating to watch.

Daniel got to see the first chick hatch. We're now up to two chicks, and with still one egg unhatched.

Adblock's April Fools 2012 — cats instead of ads

Funny, though as you can see, a little redundant in my case.
